Decal Removal and Application Guide
We're so glad you’re taking part in our decal replacement program! Removing your existing decals and installing the new OBED decals is easy. To ensure it’s perfect, we invite you to follow along with these steps and download the placement guides for Baseline, Boundary and Seclud bikes below.
Let’s get your OBED decals installed!
Wash Your Bike
Before beginning, thoroughly clean your bike of dirt, dust and grime. A good basic wash will get all surface dirt off the frame. Allow the clean frame to dry completely.
Decal Removal
Often, it simply takes the edge of a fingernail to peel the decal away from the frame, with all the adhesive coming away easily with the decal. If you find the decal difficult to remove, it helps to use a blow dryer to heat up a corner of the decal that you are removing. This causes the adhesive to come slightly loose, allowing you to remove the decal with greater ease. You can also use a stiff, thin object like a credit card to edge under the decal. However, do not use anything sharp (like a razor blade) that could damage the paint.
Decal Application Prep
With the decals removed, we recommend a light isopropyl alcohol wipe with a cotton cloth along the surface of the frame where the decals will be located. Doing so will remove any grease or oil from the bike or your hands that may inhibit the decal’s ability to adhere to the frame. Dry the frame with a clean cloth, to ensure the frame is clear of any dirt or dust.
Decal Application
After referring to the placement guide for your bike model and measuring for location, cut paper off one end of your decal, exposing an inch or so of the adhesive, while leaving the translucent backing intact.
Line up the decal based on your measurements from the placement guide, and peel off the remainder of the paper backing along the surface, laying the decal down evenly along the length of the frame, ensuring not to allow any air bubbles to become trapped under the decal.
Before removing the transfer film, use the back of your fingernail or a credit card to press the decal firmly onto the frame—top to bottom, and side to side—to ensure the decal is completely adhered to the frame. Then, slowly peel the transfer film away from the frame. If a section of decal remains adhered to the transfer film, lay it back onto the frame, press down firmly with your nail or credit card on the area, and again attempt to slowly remove the transfer film.
Once decals are placed, use a hair dryer to help the decal adhere to the frame, as well as smooth out any bubbles trapped under the decal. If you have tiny bubbles that you cannot smooth out, these can sometimes lay down overnight as the decal relaxes onto the frame. If absolutely necessary, you can use a sewing needle or corner of a razor to pierce a small hole in the decal to lay any errant bubbles down.
