OBED GVR
Fast is Fun: The OBED GVR
The beauty of gravel is not with how it’s defined, but rather— how it’s not.
Gravel is open-source. Decentralized. That means your definition of fun can go in any direction. The spirit of gravel can be conquering epic long-distance adventures. But it can also be toeing a start line, crossing a finish line, and a standing on podium.
Adventure is fun. Fast is fun. So we designed for both.
“...a race pedigree and a soul for exploration...”
High-speed thrills or low-fi adventures.
OBED’s newest gravel machine is poised to play—regardless of what your definition of play looks like.
With a race pedigree and a soul for exploration, the GVR is designed for speed, with geometry tuned for precision handling on the most technical terrain, as well as a wind tunnel-tested aerodynamic design and clean cable integration for unabashed speed during fast-paced action on paved and unpaved roads.
Quietly prototype-tested in 2021, we put the GVR through its race paces in premier events like Unbound Gravel 200, Unbound Gravel XL, and BWR Asheville, and it came out with flying colors. It can dice at the front, tackle the toughest race conditions, go all day and night, and be ready for more.
But the GVR isn’t just a racehorse— it’s always down to party. With clearance for modern 45mm tires, a lightweight chassis, and plenty of storage capacity, it will make weekend fire road rolls with friends a little bit better. With the GVR, hit the trail, finish at the river, and regale the day.
High-speed thrills, or low-fi adventures? Whatever your flavor, find your fun, with the GVR
GVR Features: Pure Speed —Everywhere
Aerodynamics
The GVR uses aerodynamic features found in modern road racing bikes, including aero cross sections, a downtube with three water bottle bosses engineered to shroud the water bottle, optional internal cable routing, and a modular seatstay accessory mount. Tested in the wind tunnel, it helps you cheat the wind when you need it, reducing your effort during epic rides—on road or off.
Invisible Internal Cable Routing
To create one of the fastest and cleanest-looking bikes in gravel, the GVR features fully internally routed cabling. All cables are fully hidden from the wind within the cockpit, frame and fork, providing an exceptionally clean look. For those that prefer to build their own cockpit for their own fitment, external bar and stem cable routing is available upon request.
Epic All-Day Compliance
The GVR was designed with an intersecting seattube/toptube interface designed to isolate the seatstays from the seattube. This helps the frame disperse and absorb vertical shocks traveling up into the seatpost, keeping them away from the rider.
Deftly Agile
Quickly switch between rutted lines, rail loose gravel corners, sew a path through technical rocky sections, or punch the gas on steep uphill pitches—no matter the terrain, the GVR is remarkably agile and responsive. It provides intuitive handling with minimal rider input.
Add-Ons
Prefer to explore? The GVR gives you options. With rear rack eyelets engineered into the rear dropouts, riders can install fenders and/or a rack by purchasing a removable seatstay bridge hardware kit. Add optional toptube bosses for frame-mounted nutrition storage. Load up your GVR for a self-supported bikepacking weekend in the wilderness.
Your GVR, Your Way
No bike company gives you as many build choices as OBED. Make your bike uniquely yours with a whole new range of color-blocked frame, fork, and logo color options. Choose Shimano or SRAM, a 1x or 2x drivetrain, carbon or aluminum rims, 700c or 650b wheels and tires, as well as your ideal handlebar, stem, saddle, and more.
GVR Style
GVR Aerodynamics
Speed is universal. Speed lets you stick with the lead pack, close gaps, chase down attacks, and fly off the front. It helps you achieve new PRs, race against your friends, get home faster, and have more fun.
We didn’t want the GVR to hold anyone back, so it was designed by an engineering team with decades of experience developing aerodynamic frames for road racing, time trialing, and triathlon, and then proven in the wind tunnel. As a result, the GVR uses many of the same aerodynamic features found in modern road racing bikes.
The frame tubes all utilize modern aero cross sections. The downtube has a slightly tear-dropped shape with a blunted trailing edge that helps shield the downtube water bottle from the wind. A bowed fork profile promotes clean airflow between the fork blades and front wheel, helping airflow stay smooth until it passes over the narrow aero seatstays. Fully hidden shift and brake cables provide the final marginal gains that allow the GVR to move with speed across the most windswept courses.
While aerodynamics were always top of mind, we didn't want to sacrifice weight, stiffness, or comfort. The GVR seeks to achieve the perfect balance, making it the ultimate all-rounder, ready to save watts and make you more efficient on any terrain.
There’s no question—on long-distance rides over rough terrain, comfort is the key to success. Whether you're entering the critical final miles of a race or just hammering with friends on an all-day epic, there’s no joy in being beaten into a fatigued state by your bike.
With the GVR we’ve designed an intersecting seattube/toptube interface that isolates the seatstays from the seattube. This helps the frame disperse and absorb vertical shocks traveling up into the seatpost, preventing them from reaching the rider. This is paired with a targeted carbon layup that provides highly targeted vertical compliance through the frame.
Comfort through the front of the bike is improved with laterally-bowed fork blades engineered to help disperse vertical shock. The result is a ride that saves your hands, forearms, and shoulders from high-frequency vibrations, while also providing greater traction and control.
All this frame comfort is enhanced by the ability to fit cushy, wide gravel tires and achieve the perfect bike fit. The GVR’s dropped chainstay design is capable of fitting tires up to 700c x 45mm wide (or 650b up to 53mm) with enough clearance to shed mud in the worst conditions. Pair this with your ideal stem length and bar width via our configurator, and you have a gravel bike that will feel comfortable after hours in the saddle.
In response to the limitless and ever-changing demands of gravel riding, we’ve tightened up handling with the GVR. Wherever pointed, it goes. A bit steeper head tube angle, a reduced fork trail and a lower bottom bracket paired with short chainstays. While the changes are small independent of one another, the combination of adjustments allow the GVR to float under you with razor-sharp precision and confidence.
When quickly switching rutted lines, railing a gravel corner with speed, sewing a path through a technical rocky section, or punching the gas on a steep uphill pitch, the GVR is remarkably agile and responsive, with minimal rider input.
